Gokayama Spring Festival
In the Gokayama-no-hira and Kamihira areas, spring festivals are held every year from late April to early May in each village in the area, and lion dances are performed to pray for disease-free breathing.
The lion dance of Gokayama is called a centipede lion and is characterized by a powerful dance. Every year, many tourists visit Gokayama to see this lion dance.
In the Nishiakao village where our house is located, a lion dance is held every year on May 3rd and 4th of Golden Week.

Nanto City Lion Dance Co-star
An event in which the old towns and villages of Nanto City, including the Gokayamadaira and Kamihira areas, jointly perform a lion dance began in 2019.
In each area of Nanto City, the lion dance culture has been passed down from ancient times to the present day. It is an annual event where you can see a wide variety of lion dances, each with its own history and pride. Please see the dance that local volunteers unfold with their hearts together.
